A fake taxi was nabbed at Dublin Airport yesterday and an uninsured driver had their car impounded as gardai carried out several checkpoints in a busy start to the weekend.
The 'vehicle for hire' was caught trying to pick up passengers at Dublin Airport when the driver was stopped by gardai, and they're now facing a court date.
The vehicle was seized in the operation that took place in a joint venture by gardai and the National Transport Authority.
Gardai said: "Joint Operation between NTA and DMR Roads Policing Dublin Castle targeting unlicensed Small Public Service Vehicle operators within the Dublin Region. Vehicle suspected of operating for Hire / Reward when stopped at Dublin Airport. Vehicle seized and Court appearance to follow."
While in the evening, gardai carrying out an Operation Fanacht checkpoint as part of Level 5 restrictions, caught an uninsured driver on the N81 in Brittas.
They now also face a court date and their car was seized.
Gardai said: "Gardaí from Tallaght impound a car from an uninsured motorist at a busy Friday evening #OperationFanacht checkpoint on the N81 at Brittas, Co Dublin. Court proceedings to follow. #HoldFirm #StaySafe #WashYourHands #SocialDistancing"
