Dublin Airport celebrations as Irish Olympic winners arrive home

Dublin Airport welcomed home Ireland’s Olympic champions today.

Team Ireland’s medal winners arrived back to the capital much to the delight of fans, friends and family members.

The Dublin Airport account tweeted: "Fáilte abhaile #TeamIreland & comhghairdeas to all our #Olympic2020 medal winners to @DublinAirport @Olympics”

Among those returning were six of Ireland’s olympic medallists.

Champion rowers Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy were returning with gold medals.

Female rowers Emily Hegarty, Fiona Murtagh, Eimear Lambe and Aifric Keogh were bringing home their own bronze medals.

The team were the first female athletes to win an Olympic medal in rowing for Ireland.

The champions flew home together from Tokyo via Doha and were met by a small gathering of family members due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Dublin Airport Fire Service provided the returning athletes with a special escort.
