Dublin Airport bus service permanently suspended as 'impact of Covid-19' takes its toll

Dublin Bus' Airlink services have been permanently suspended due to "the impact of Covid-19."

The 747 and 757 routes to Dublin Airport were temporarily scrapped when the pandemic began but it was announced yesterday that they won't be making a return.

In a communication to staff, Dublin Bus said: "Due to the impact of Covid-19, Airlink services will be permanently suspended.

"After a full review, this regrettable but necessary decision was taken as the operation is no longer financially viable.

"DoDublin tours are back on the streets of Dublin and we will continue to look at other commercial opportunities to grow our business.

"However, the past 18 months has had a significant impact on our business and, where our commercial activities are concerned, financial viability is key to their development and sustainability."

A spokeswoman for Dublin Bus told Dublin Live: "Due to the impact of Covid-19 Airlink Express services on Routes 747 and 757 have permanently ceased to operate."

However, yesterday Dublin Airport announced a new Dublin Express service that brings passengers to the city centre.

Throughout the day, there will be 76 services between Dublin city and the airport operating every 30 minutes.

Tickets cost €6 and once you make a booking, you're guaranteed a seat on the bus.

All services offer a free luggage allowance of 20kg to store and one piece of soft hand luggage to bring on board.

In total there are nine stops in the city centre. They include George's Quay, Aston Quay, Wellington Quay, Ushers Quay, Heuston Station, Smithfield, Grattan Bridge, Eden Quay and Custom House Quay.

There are two drop-offs in Dublin Airport outside both Terminal 1 and 2.
