A transatlantic flight due to land in Dublin Airport this morning after taking off from California last night had to be diverted to Canada when a passenger fell ill.
Aer Lingus flight EI 146 from San Fransisco to Dublin was due to land in Dublin shortly before midday.
However, the Airbus 330-300 was forced to divert to Calgary International Airport in Canada due to a medical emergency.
After landing in Calgary around 10pm local time, the stricken passenger was taken off the aircraft by medics to receive treatment.
Passengers then had to wait until around 11:30pm before finally resuming their journey to Dublin. Their flight is due to land here at around 4pm.
A spokesperson for Aer Lingus told Dublin Live: "Aer Lingus flight EI146, which departed San Francisco for Dublin yesterday evening local time, was diverted to Calgary, Canada due to a medical emergency involving one of the guests on board.
"The guest was taken from the aircraft at Calgary International Airport to receive the necessary medical attention.
"The aircraft has continued its flight and is expected to land in Dublin Airport this afternoon shortly after 16.00.
"We sincerely apologise to affected guests for the inconvenience caused."
