Dublin Airport apologises after 'stressed' passengers left queuing for hours at security chaos

Dublin Airport has apologised after a number of passengers were left queuing at security for hours.

With the implementation of the EU Digital Covid Certificate in July, thousands of tourists jetted off on holidays or for work purposes in the last eight weeks.

However, as more and more people get vaccinated, the passenger numbers have increased - and things went haywire on Sunday morning.

A number of passengers took to social media to vent their frustration before the airport itself made a statement.

One frustrated man said: "Missed my flight this morning on account of the obscene overcrowding and delays in security, I was in the queue when it was advertised as a 35 minute wait this later changed to 45. I finally got through after 1 hour and 20 mins but my gate had closed."

While a second added: "People missing flights due to DAA staffing issues. An aviation industry trying to survive after being crippled for 18 months !! Not good enough."

A third said: "Two lanes open, over an hour waiting, no time to have any food afterwards as we were left running for our gate despite arriving 3 hours before our short haul flight. Complete shambles"

The airport apologised in a tweet, saying "We are experiencing lengthy queues for security screening this morning. Additional resources have been deployed to the area & we expect the situation to ease shortly. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Our teams are working hard to help you on your way."
