Dublin add former Mayo coach to backroom team as five-in-a-row bid steps up

Jim Gavin has added former Mayo and Kildare coach Shane Malone to the Dublin backroom team as the Boys in Blue prepare for the 2019 Championship, the Irish Examiner reports.

Malone, who is currently the IRFU's head of sports science, comes in as a strength and conditioning coach and will work with their high performance manager Brian Cullen.

An IT Tallaght associate lecturer of exercise physiology, Malone has also worked with football clubs such as Celtic and Udinese.

Owen Mulligan says Dublin need Diarmuid Connolly back but doubts Jim Gavin will call him back

Gavin's men endured a turbulent league campaign that saw the All-Ireland kingpins taste three defeats - the first time in the league under Gavin - and failed to qualify for the decider for the first time since 2012.

Dublin will get their Leinster Championship camapaign under way when they meet the winners of Louth and Wexford on May 25th.
