Dublin actor Aidan Turner completes filming of new show Leonardo

Poldark actor Aidan Turner has completed filming on new TV series Leonardo based on the life of the master painter.

The huge show has become one of the first large-scale productions to resume production during the coronavirus crisis – and it included one of the biggest sets in Western Europe.

The series, which stars the Dubliner as the Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci, began filming again on June 15 at locations with strict safety protocols adhering to Italian government guidelines.

The production spanned 2,000 hours and involved 3,000 crew including actors and extras and 2,500 costumes.

Poldark star Turner is set to play the artist in the television series Leonardo, which will begin next year (BBC)

Born in Vinci, in Tuscany, Mona Lisa painter Leonardo displayed mastery in arts, science and technology and masterminded early models of a submarine and parachute as well as creating some of the world’s greatest paintings.

The series recounts his life through the works that made him famous.

Stories hidden within them reveal, little by little, the inner torment of a man obsessed with perfection.

Set in Italy in the late 1400s, Leonardo will see the genius fall under suspicion of murder from a Milan police officer, who starts digging into his past.

The series is created by Sherlock writer Stephen Thompson and The Man In The High Castle’s Frank Spotnitz.

There is no release date as yet.
