Dublin 15 site plans include 28 storey hotel and office blocks at M50 junction

A towering 28-storey hotel could take over the skyline at one of Dublin's busiest motorway junctions.

A planning application has been submitted for the huge hotel and office development at a site that is currently home to "Junction 6", a health and fitness village located just off the M50.

The massive 1.62 hectare site sandwiched between the busy motorway and N3 Navan Road has been earmarked for transformation.

According to the planning application which was submitted earlier this month, the development will see all the existing buildings on the site demolished.

In its place, a 459 bedroom hotel and office buildings will be built in four different units that range from two to 28 storeys.

The hotel tower will reach the maximum 28 storeys, with the office buildings reaching up to 13 storeys.

Also proposed is car park space for 232 vehicles, 710 bicycle parking spaces and a retail cafe and set down area for the hotel.

Current road access to the site is also expected to be upgraded.

A decision on the proposal is yet to be made by Fingal County Council.

A proposal for a 12-storey apartment development in Santry was recently approved by An Bord Pleanala.

It was pushed through fast track planning which allows developers to go straight to the planning body and bypass local authorities.

Located beside the Omni shopping centre, it has been described as an "over-development" of the area due to its height and scale.
