A chocolate bar resembling the viral Dubai Chocolate has been pulled from UK supermarkets due to a potential dangerous health risk.
A food warning has been issued to consumers and food businesses cautioning health risks of Dubai Chocolate-style products purchased from Noesis and Fix it.
The chocolate products have been found to include allergens such as peanuts, almonds, cashews and walnuts, which aren’t mentioned on the labelling.
It follows another recall of a Dubai-style chocolate bar in July. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Noesis Schokolade Love of Dubai bar contained peanuts, but didn’t list it in the ingredients.
The Destan Pistazien Crème Dubai Style from Denar Limited was also recalled at the end of last month because it contained milk which wasn’t listed on the label.
Noesis Shokolade Love of Dubai, 95g, and Fix it Dubai Kunafa Chocolate, 50g, are included in the latest recall.
“We are notifying consumers and food businesses who have purchased any of the Dubai-style chocolate products listed below as these products contain peanuts and other types of nuts (almonds, cashews and walnuts) which are not all mentioned on the labelling, making it a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy to peanuts or other types of nuts,” the FSA said.
According to the FSA, businesses were supplied with these products by Black Sea Trading Ltd. They have suggested that companies selling these products should enforce safety measures.
"If you have an allergy to peanuts or other types of nuts, don't buy these products, and if you have bought them, don't eat them, especially if you have a peanut or nut allergy,” FSA said.
"Dispose of the products at home and get in touch with your local Trading Standards in Great Britain or Environmental Health Officers in Northern Ireland, to let them know where you purchased them."
Local authorities have been supplied with details of the actions taken to protect consumers.
The Dubai chocolate bar went viral in 2024, prompting chocolate-makers to manufacture similar products.
In June, Aldi began selling the Dubai Chocolate Style Pistachio Cream and Kadayif Filled Milk Chocolate for £3.99. Lidl sold JD Gross Dubai-Dubai-Style Chocolate bar for £3.99, which sold out quickly.
The original chocolate bar, Can't Get Knafeh, was created by British-Egyptian entrepreneur Sarah Hamouda, 38, who founded Fix Dessert Chocolatier in 2021 as a side hustle.
She was inspired to create the chocolate after finding herself craving the flavour combination during her pregnancy.
The bar is made of shredded filo pastry (kataifi) and pistachio cream encased in milk chocolate. Other flavours include baklava, karak and Lotus Biscoff.
