Dubai Cares, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, in partnership with world-renowned artist Sacha Jafri, has launched the "Humanity Inspired" initiative that includes the creation of the largest canvas painting aimed at breaking a Guinness World Record for The Largest Art Canvas.
This initiative -inspired by the view of Jafri on enhancing communication among people after the Covid-19 pandemic in order to address its impact on children and the younger generation- aims to raise more than AED110 million (USD $30 million) to connect one billion people around the world. 'Humanity Inspired' will support a joint global effort by Dubai Cares and its partners United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, to scale up digital connectivity and provide equitable access to remote learning for children and youth across the world.
It will also support the Global Gift Foundation's key projects centered on children's education and wellbeing, with a special focus on helping those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Partners including the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, Ministry of Education, and Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing are also part of the initiative.
Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said the "Humanity Inspired" initiative seeks to provide children and youth regardless of their gender, nationality, race, or religion with access to connectivity in order to pursue their education.
Working over a period of 20 weeks at a ballroom in Atlantis, The Palm, converted into the world's largest artist's studio, Dubai-based Jafri will create a massive painting. Due to be completed by 7 September, the painting has been endorsed by more than 100 celebrities from across the globe.
"Humanity Inspired aims to be a catalyst for true social change through the hearts, minds, and souls of the children of the world. Through this initiative, we seek to connect the world and reconnect ourselves with humanity. My painting, "The Journey of Humanity" will support the delivery of improved education and connectivity. It will also raise funds to support the poorest and most deprived regions in order to help children and families around the world."
Over the 18 past years, Jafri has raised more than $60 million dollars for charities across the world from the sale of his art. He received both the Global Gift Foundation's Humanitarian Award and the Global Art Award twice, in addition to The Karic Brothers - Humanitarian of the Year award.
