Dubai placed on Scots quarantine list as travellers told to self-isolate for 10 days

The Scottish Government has ordered travellers coming into the country from Dubai to self-isolate.

A statement issued tonight says that from 4am tomorrow travellers from the UAE city must stay indoors for ten days as it was placed on the quarantine list.

Anyone who has come from Dubai since January 3 must also isolate for the period from the time they arrived back.

The Scottish Government statement says the decision came due to passengers who have flown into Glasgow from Dubai since the New Year.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “It is evident, both in Scotland and in countries across the world, that the virus continues to pose real risks to health and to life and we need to interrupt the rise in cases.

“Imposing quarantine requirements on those arriving in the UK is our first defence in managing the risk of imported cases from communities with high risks of transmission.

That is why we have made the decision to remove Dubai from the country exemptions list.

“Whether or not an overseas destination has been designated for quarantine restrictions, our message remains clear that people should not currently be undertaking non-essential foreign travel.

"People need to stay at home to help suppress the virus, protect our NHS and save lives.”

The Celtic team arrived back in Scotland two days ago from their winter training to Dubai, with a player having since tested positive for the deadly bug.

The unnamed positive player will be missing for Monday's home match against Hibs.

Last week Scots Euromillions winner Jane Park was in the city and questioned whether Dubai was part of Scots lockdown rules.

Failure to comply with the requirement to quarantine may result in a fine of more than £480.
