Dubai hotel fire: Firefighter at blaze identified as Sheikh Mansoor - the son of emirate's ruler

A firefighter at the scene of the Address Hotel fire in Dubai on New Years Eve is the son of the ruler of Dubai, it has emerged.

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed al-Maktoum was pictured in uniform among other Dubai Civil Defence officers.

The photo, accordingly taken by a photographer at Gulf News, was posted on Twitter and shared by a journalist from the paper.

Sheikh Mansoor is the son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Dubai. The Prime Minister reportedly has 23 children with a number of wives.

According to his Twitter page, Sheikh Mansoor is the Chairman of Dubai International Marine Sports Club. His Instagram page also shows him in military uniform.

The blaze at the Address Hotel broke out hours before a planned extravagant fireworks display at the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa, to welcome in the new year.

After working through the night firefighters had mostly extinguished the blaze by the morning.

According to Dubai police 14 people were injured but remarkably noone was killed.

The fireworks display went ahead just a few hours later.
