Dua Lipa makes powerful NHS plea to Boris Johnson after Brits win

Dua Lipa pleaded with Prime Minister Boris Johnson to give NHS frontline workers "a fair pay rise" as she won the Brit Award for Best Female.

The Physical and Love Again singer proved bookies right by winning one of the top accolades of the night at the O2 Arena in London, seeing off competition from the likes of Jessie Ware and Celeste.

This year's all winners each get two trophies if they win and Dua dedicated her second to Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, Emeritus Professor of Nursing at the University of West London.

Paying tribute to her and the frontline workers who have worked incredibly hard over the past year especially during the coronavirus pandemic, Dua said: "She has spent her stellar nursing career fighting racial injustice; she has also spent so much time and is a strong, strong advocate for protecting front line workers.

"She has also said there is a massive disparity between gratitude and respect for frontline workers... because it's very good to clap for them but we need to pay them!"

Dua's passionate speech was greeted by cheers and a standing ovation from many of the 4,000 strong crowd, including plenty of key workers who'd been gifted tickets.

And then, moving onto the PM, she added: "So I think, what we should do is that we should all give a massive, massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a fair pair rise for out frontline!"

Viewers at home were just as behind Dua as the Brits audience, with one tweeting: "Yessss Dua Lipa using her platform to urge Boris Johnson to give NHS workers a pay rise.

A second reacted: "Dua Lipa telling Boris Johnson to give the NHS a bigger pay rise live on the Brit Awards is brilliant."
