Dua Lipa grateful for cruel fans who ‘bullied her online’ as it drove her to ‘be better’

Dua Lipa has revealed that she’s somewhat grateful after fans tore her to shreds on social media at the beginning of her career.

The Don’t Start Now hitmaker, 25, first shot to mainstream media fame back in 2015 when her catchy tunes started to dominate the music charts.

Over six years later, the Kosovan-born singer is the biggest female music artist on the planet with dozens of award nominations and wins under her belt.

But Dua didn’t have an easy ride to success.

The pop star has faced constant criticism over her ‘tragic’ dancing skills, and her ‘dodgy’ live performances.

While others may have allowed the brutal backlash to grate on them, the brunette beauty used to online hate to better herself and ‘grow’.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Dua thanked her 69 million followers for their unwavering support as she celebrated the anniversary of her self-titled debut album which was released on June 2, 2017.

Alongside a screenshot of the iconic album cover, the singing sensation penned: “4 years since the release of my debut album. Thank you to everyone that has been here for the whole journey so far.

“I’m so grateful for this album and all the incredible people I met and the lesson I learned.

“I would never have been able to make Future Nostalgia if it wasn’t for this album. I guess 4 years really do fly by when you’re having fun.”

Dua then took her stories to address the online bullying she faced as a result of her dancing skills – which she has perfected since.

“I just want to say a massive, massive, massive, thank you to everyone who has been listening to my music from the very beginning. I’m so grateful for all the incredible opportunities and all the amazing people I have met.

“All the lessons that I’ve learned while touring for three years, and getting bullied online for my bad dancing.

“It made me want to dance my a** off and just really get better, so thank you so much,” she laughed.

“Thank you so much for all things good and bad and for helping me grow. I’m forever grateful.

It comes after Dua’s label bosses revealed that the superstar is already thinking about making her third album.

Dua recently teased new music (Instagram)

Dua released the hugely successful Future Nostalgia in early 2020, and said the following month that she’d be thinking about album three “sooner rather than later”.

On the red carpet at the 2021 BRIT Awards, Dua said she is “working on some bits of new music, so possibly there will be something soon”.
