Dua Lipa celebrated “female empowerment” as she accepted an award at this year’s women-dominated Grammy Awards.

The British pop star, 25, won the prize for Best Pop Vocal Album for 2020’s acclaimed Future Nostalgia, and also performed on the night.

Speaking after the ceremony, she said: “I feel first of all, really, really grateful. I am over the moon and I am so grateful for the recognition.

“For the recognition of women, I feel like there’s been a lot of female empowerment and lots of women winning awards tonight.

“And so it’s been absolutely amazing to be alongside all that, to feel that energy and for an album that means so much to me I’m just so proud to be standing here with this award.

“It’s unmatched, the feeling.”

Dua Lipa won on the same night that Beyonce and Taylor Swift made Grammys history, as Billie Eilish, HER and Megan Thee Stallion also celebrated big wins.

Swift became the first female artist to win Album of the Year three times, while Beyonce asserted herself as the undisputed queen of the Grammys with a record-breaking 28 wins.

Women ruled all of the Big Four categories: Song, Album and Record of the Year, and Best New Artist.
