Dua Lipa’s highly anticipated third album, titled Radical Optimism, has been officially announced with a release date set for May 3, 2024. The announcement was made by the singer herself on Instagram, where she shared the album cover art shot by Tyrone Lebon.
The cover art depicts Lipa standing alone in the middle of the ocean at sunset, with a shark’s fin swimming nearby. The tracklist for Radical Optimism includes 11 songs, such as “French Exit,” “Anything for Love,” “End of an Era,” “Happy for You,” and “Illusion,” among others.
In a statement, Lipa explained that the concept of Radical Optimism, defined as “the philosophy that argues for looking at the good in every part of life, based on reason and evidence,” inspired her during the creation of the album. She expressed how this philosophy helped her navigate through challenges and remain positive in the face of adversity.
Lipa drew inspiration from music genres like psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop, which she found to exude confidence and optimism. This influence is evident in the recording sessions for Radical Optimism, where she aimed to capture the honesty and attitude of these genres.
Two singles from the album have already been released: “Houdini” in November 2023, which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Training Season” in February 2024, charting at No. 27. Lipa performed both songs at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she also received nominations for her track “Dance the Night” in the categories of Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Despite not winning at the Grammys, Lipa’s success in the music industry continues to grow as she prepares for the release of Radical Optimism, which promises to showcase her evolution as an artist and her commitment to spreading positivity through her music.
