Total Access Communication (DTAC) subsidiary DTAC TriNet has won an uncontested auction for a 900-megahertz licence for 38.06 billion baht.

The third-largest mobile operator entered the bid through its subsidiary DTAC TriNet at the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Sunday.

The telecom firm was the only sole bidder, as AIS and True Move had already secured the 900-MHz licences.

The auction started with a reserve price of 37.98 billion baht for 5MHz of bandwidth on the 900MHz spectrum, containing 890-895MHz for upload and 935-940MHz for download.

The NBTC requires the firm to pay the first installment of  4.02 billion within 90 days from Wednesday - 2.01 billion in 2019, another 2.01 billion in 2020, and the remainder in 2021.

The telecom regulator plans to hold auctions for two spectrum licenses in 2019, including the remaining 35-MHz of bandwidth on the 1800-MHz range and 2600-MHz range now being used by state-owned broadcaster MCOT Plc.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said the NBTC board will hold a meeting to approve the auction result.

"The 900-MHz license is the last auction for 2018, we (NBTC) plan to move ahead with the next auction in 2019 comprising the remaining 1800-MHz licenses and the 2600-MHz," he said.
