DTAC raises compensation for B461-trillion bill

Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission

DTAC TriNet Co has raised its compensation for mobile phone customers who were asked to pay 461 trillion baht early this month after the telecom regulator considered its original offer was too low.

Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), said a representative of the company explained to the office on Tuesday the case in which its post-paid mobile phone subscriber was disconnected as its system reported the huge phone fee.

He said the company blamed the incident on a system malfunction and offered to give her 50 minutes of free phone calls to all phone networks in three days and free usage of 500 megabytes of internet data in a day.

But the regulator decided the offer was too small and told the company to write a letter to explain the offer within Friday, Mr Takorn said.

Later on Tuesday the company reportedly raised the compensation to 100 minutes of free phone calls in seven days and the free usage of 1-gigabyte internet data in a day.
