DT Shamar Stephen is heading back to the Vikings

With the Vikings likely to lose defensive tackle Sheldon Richardon in free agency, they are bringing back a familiar face.

Per multiple sources, first reported by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Vikings will sign defensive tackle Shamar Stephen to a three-year deal.

Stephen, 28, played with the Vikings from 2014 to 2017 after the team drafted him in the seventh round in 2014.

He played with the Seahawks last season and started 14 games. He finished with 25 tackles and two sacks.

Per Pro Football Focus, Stephen graded as the league’s 98th interior defender.

It feels like this is more of a depth move than a starter move, but we’ll see what the exact terms of the deal look like.

Defensive tackle Tom Johnson is also set to be a free agent.
