DT DaVon Hamilton’s knee injury isn’t as severe as initially believed

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton received good news Monday as his knee injury isn’t a long-term one. The news comes after he exited Week 12’s game late and had to be carted off the field as a result.

Hamilton dodging a major injury is fantastic news as he’s been having a great season. He graded as the Jags’ top player Weeks 8-9 against the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans with an 86.6 and an 87.9 Pro Football Focus grade, respectively, in those weeks. Statistically, he exited Week 12 with 30 total tackles (14 solo tackles) and a sack.

With the Jags out of playoff contention, there is no need for the Jags to rush Hamilton back. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising for the team to place him on injured reserve as they did Allen, and maybe even keep him out for the remainder of the season if needed.

With Hamilton potentially out for multiple weeks, it appears veteran Abry Jones could be activated from injured reserve in the near future as the Jags have a rough patch coming up on their schedule. They will have to deal with the likes of the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts to name a few, all of whom have respectable rushing attacks.
