DSPCA warn of door to door scammers 'stealing our donations'

The DSPCA have issued a warning to householders that scammers are "stealing our donations" by calling to homes claiming to be collecting for the charity.

The fraudsters are attempting to collect money at doorsteps or trying to persuade people to sign up to direct debit donations.

The group of young people are even using the charity's logo on headed paper attached to official looking clipboards.

The animal welfare group took to social media to warn people about the scam.

A statement read: "Over the last few weeks it has come to our attention that there are both young people and adults collecting door to door on behalf of the animals at the DSPCA.

"Some people are using copies of our logo on headed paper attached to official looking clipboards but please be aware these people are thieves!

"Please note the DSPCA “NEVER” collect money or direct debit sign-ups door to door so if you give a donation to one of these people you are lining the pockets of con artists."

The charity further advised people to only donate to them through official sources.

Ways to donate can be found on the DSCPA website .
