DSI nabs six in paedophilia raid nationwide

Authorities have seized over 1,000 files of paedophilia images and video clips in a large-scale raid in 16 spots across the country.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI), which led the latest operation on Tuesday, found 11 target areas in nine provinces were linked with the wrongdoing.

"We have evidence to back the accusation," DSI chief Paisit Wongmuang said yesterday.

The officers also arrested six suspects but did not unveil further details. Pol Col Paisit said both Thai and foreign suspects were involved in the crime.

They will be charged with possession of illicit images under the Criminal Code and their distribution on the internet under the Computer Crime Act.

Some of the suspects will also face charges of human trafficking, Pol Col Paisit said.

Investigators also confiscated electronic devices as evidence, including nine computers, six mobile phones and four hard disks.

All the items were found during the raid in nine provinces -- two each in Chon Buri's Pattaya resort beach and Phuket and one in each of remaining seven provinces: Kamphaeng Phet, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Songkhla, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Chachoengsao.

The DSI is working with police and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) take further legal action. "We plan to enforce the Amlo law and will track down more suspects," Pol Col Paisit said.
