DSCC raises record-setting $19 million in September

WASHINGTON _ The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $19 million in the month of September, the group said Wednesday, a record-setting haul for a party seeking to regain a Senate majority on Election Day.

The committee said it had $28.3 million on hand to start October.

The collection tops recent election year September fundraising hauls for the DSCC: It raised $16.7 million in September of 2014, and $15.6 million in September of 2012.

Down-ballot Democrats have amassed huge war chests in the home-stretch of the election, boosted in part by the belief that Donald Trump's toxic poll numbers could give the party an opportunity to make significant gains in House and Senate races.

On Tuesday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced it had raised $21 million in September, meaning the two groups combined to raise $40 million last month.

"Our resounding fundraising success gives us the momentum heading into the final stretch of this campaign as we work to take back the majority in November," said Tom Lopach, executive director of the DSCC, in a statement.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee said Tuesday that it raised $15 million in September, in addition to taking out a $15.5 million line of credit for the final weeks of the election. It had $12.3 million on hand.

Senate Republican officials are worried that they are being heavily outspent in a handful of key races, especially in battlegrounds like Pennsylvania.
