Drymen Show falls victim to pandemic for second year in a row

This year’s Drymen Show has been cancelled over uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The organisers of the annual agricultural show this week confirmed they have been forced to pull the plug on the event - for the second year in a row.

The show, organised by Strathendrick Agricultural Society Committee, had been set for May 29 this year.

Chair of the organising committee Wendy Gillon said the “regretful” decision had been taken to cancel but added: “We hope that if legal and safe, we can have some form of social event later on the year.

“It’s fair to say our members and committee are missing the social side of organising and hosting a show.

“Our focus will now be on 2022 and being able to hold a show on Saturday, May 28.”

Last week, the Observer told how the organisers of Doune and Dunblane Show also took the decision to cancel this year’s event over uncertainty.

Doune and Dunblane Agricultural Society made the difficult decision to cancel the show, due to be held on Saturday, July 3.

Taking to their Facebook page, they said: “In order to hold our show we would need to be in Level 1 or 0 but, even then, we would be hugely limited as to the number of people allowed on the show field.

“Travel restrictions in place in other authorities may also exclude exhibitors and visitors from outwith Stirlingshire therefore making the show unviable. It’s incredibly disappointing to have to cancel our show for a second year but we look forward to welcoming you back in 2022.”

Elsewhere, a decision has yet to be made on this year’s Stirling Show. The organisers of the event, which takes place at Blackgrange Field on June 12, will meet next month to decide.
