An arrogant thug caught red-handed stealing meat from popular supermarket chain Tesco shouted "do you know who I am' when he was questioned by security staff.
Daniel Mills, 31, and Christopher Jones, 27, were both fined after what magistrates described as a "silly drunken outing" after they became aggressive towards supermarket staff after a New Year drinking binge.
Both men were so drunk at about 8.20am on Thursday, January 2, they had no idea they had even stolen anything until they were shown CCTV, reports Stoke on Trent Live.
Mills stole meat and alcohol from the Co-op in Audley, Staffordshire, before heading to Tesco Express where Jones had also stolen meat, magistrates heard at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
When Mills arrived at Tesco Express he found Jones being aggressive to supermarket staff shouting 'Come on then, do you know who I am?'.
Prosecutor Sue Hayers added: "They were asked to give back the stock that had been stolen. He said, ‘What are you going to do about it? We run this village'. He also threatened, ‘I know where you live, we will fill you in’.”
James Hulse, mitigating, said: "They had been out on New Year’s Eve and carried on on New Year’s Day. They decided to go to these stores and this is what they decided to do.
“Mr Mills did not know Mr Jones had taken some items. He sees Mr Jones having a wrestling match with two men and in a misguided show of loyalty he gets involved and starts making threats.”
Both men were arrested by Staffordshire Police and charged on January 3.
Jones, from Alsager, pleaded guilty to stealing goods valued £51.35 from Tesco. He was told to pay £51.35 compensation and told to pay £130.
Mills, from Kidsgrove, pleaded guilty to stealing meat and alcohol worth £74 from Co-op and using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was fined £240, told to pay £74 compensation.
Both men must also pay £135 court costs and £32 victim surcharges.
