Drunken thug punched girlfriend's face leaving her with horrific injuries

A woman was left with horrifying facial injuries after her drunken boyfriend punched her in the face ten times.

David Cowdroy, 41, admitted causing actual bodily harm to his girlfriend on July 4, 2021.

At Grimsby Crown Court prosecutor, Hannah Turner, said that Cowdroy, of North Killingholme, and his girlfriend had been drinking a lot after celebrating his birthday the day before, Grimsby Live reports.

At 1.30am, a row broke out at her home and he hurled a stool into the kitchen.

His partner asked him to leave and he was pushed towards the door.

Cowdroy went into a rage and pushed the woman to the ground and rained a total of ten punches to her face as she laid on her back.

The prosecutor said the punches were described by the complainant as "man punches" and were relentless "doing the worst he could." The court heard the woman feared for her life and was left with "horrific injuries." Police later arrested Cowdroy.

For Cowdroy, Steve Freestone said his client had no memory of the incident due to his intoxication. He said there had been no call outs to the police to the home prior to the incident.

Judge Mark Bury told Cowdroy: "You were trying to do as much damage as possible. The photographs taken afterwards are horrific. They are extremely distressing. It could have been a lot worse."

He said he accepted the defendant's remorse is genuine and the former girlfriend had expressed her forgiveness and said she did not want him to go to prison. "That is not for her to decide. That is for me. You know that you deserve to go into custody. You would feel properly punished," said the judge.

"You will have some time to reflect on your behaviour. You have a lot of offer when you are not in drink. You are capable of being a good parent and a good son." He sentenced Cowdroy to ten months in prison.
