SAKHON NAKHON: A drunken man was arrested after police rescued him from the roof of an apartment where he fled to after a rape attempt in Muang district early Saturday morning.
Weerachet Sukcharoen, 22, a native of tambon Chiang Khruea of Muang district, was arrested after climbing down a ladder that police set up for him from the rooftop of an apartment building in the morning.
Earlier, he escaped to the roof of the three-storey apartment building after fleeing from an adjacent dormitory of female students.
A student calling herself A said the main entrance to her dormitory had a keycard lock and she left her room door unlocked because most of the occupants had gone on Songkran vacation.
At about 4.30am while she was using her smartphone, she heard approaching footsteps of someone who kept trying the door knob of each room. Finally, a man entered her room, knocked her down and tried twice to rape her but failed because he was too drunk.
She managed to bite his hand, kicked him and ran away before calling police. She said she wondered how the man passed through the keycard door.
Mr Weerachet was charged with attempted rape, physical assault and trespassing at night.
