Drunken lout hurled racist insults at Pontins security guard

A drunken lout hurled racist insults at a security guard at Pontins in Ainsdale.

Ricky Brettle launched a torrent of abuse at Kieran Ashby in front of around 500 people at the holiday park after drinking heavily.

Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard there was already "concern" over his behaviour while he was drunk on August 21, 2020.

When a security guard ordered Brettle to leave the family-friendly holiday park, he subjected him to the racist abuse.

District Judge Paul Healey said: "The decision was made to evict you. You subjected the security guard to the most appalling racist abuse."

The 41-year-old today pleaded guilty to the racial aggravated abuse.

He has a number of previous convictions dating back to the 1990s, with his most recent conviction in 2019 for production of cannabis.

Brettle was also previously convicted in 2008 for criminal damage and assault.

District Judge Healey said: "There seems to be quite a gap in your offending, going back to 2000s you were before court on a regular basis."

The district judge said: "Having regard to the seriousness of the offence and having regard to the comments that were made I think I do have to get a report."

Olivia Brady, prosecuted today's case and Gary McAteer represented Brettle.

Brettle, of Gordon Street, Darwen, near Blackburn, will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court to be sentenced on February 26.

He was released on unconditional bail.
