Woman fined after town centre incident insists: 'I didn't do anything wrong. I was on my way home and I fell over'

A woman who 'lashed out' at members of the public while lying on the floor drunk has been slapped with a fine. Eleanor Davies claims she was walking home, fell over and 'didn't do anything' wrong which led to her being arrested for being drunk and disorderly just after midnight on February 17 this year.

Stockport Magistrates Court heard that the 33-year-old was found on the floor on Chestergate, Stockport, by a security guard at a nearby casino who called the police. Davies was seen 'lying down' and 'banging her head on the floor' while being violent to members of the public.

The security guard stayed with her until police arrived. They found her slurring her words and smelling of alcohol.

Ms Musa, prosecuting, added that Davies was unable to have a conversation with the police due to her intoxicated state and when she got up off the floor 'lashed out' at the officers and others before trying to walk away. Davies was subsequently arrested.

Speaking in her own defence, Davies, told the bench: "I didn't do anything wrong. I was on my way home and I fell over. The police were called by someone that hates me. I was just going home."

Davies, of Lancashire Hill in Heaton Norris, was ordered to pay £187 in costs for being drunk and disorderly in a public place. She pleaded guilty at the start of the hearing.

JP Marcia Moss told her: "If you had behaved yourself in the company of the police you would not be here today. It is behaviour that we can't condone and we don't accept in a public place. You need to think about your behaviour while intoxicated."
