Drunk woman runs onto airport tarmac in front of plane after missing final call

A passenger heading home after Christmas ran out onto the airport tarmac and in front of a plane as she attempted to get the pilot’s attention because she was late for boarding.

Vickie Meyers, 53, told police she was drunk and made a dash for the Spirit Airlines plane at Sky Harbor Airport, in Phoenix, last Sunday, it is reported by KSAZ-TV.

The woman, who was heading back to her home in St. Louis, Missouri, said she was confused about the departure times and missed the final boarding call.

She then first tried to get through the boarding gate door by putting in a random code and then headed to a nearby emergency fire exit which went down to the tarmac.

Meyers went down the stairs and bolted across to the front of the plane where she is believed to have tried to get the attention of the pilot.

'She decided to go out the emergency doors, to the tarmac, and start arguing with grounds crews about why she should be let on the plane still,' passenger Bryan Jones told KSAZ-TV.

Meyers then was held by airport staff until police arrived and she was taken back to the terminal and arrested.

She was taken to Maricopa County jail where she was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing.

It comes just weeks after man arriving at the same airport jumped out of a plane that was taxiing.

Daniel Ramirez, who was on a plane from Colarado Springs, opened a door at the back of the plane and locked him into the a fire department at the airport, reported Fox10.

Capt. Todd Keller stopped the plane and contacted air traffic control before the passenger was charged with two counts of trespassing.
