Drunk teenager went berserk after being told she couldn't use restaurant toilet

A drunk teenager threatened to stab a restaurant worker after she wasn't allowed to use the toilet.

Elise Shallis, 18, from Stalybridge, smashed a window and was racially abusive, calling people 'dirty f***ing P***s', a court heard.

She held a spanner to a staff member's throat in such a way that it appeared to be a knife and hurled a plate, smashing it, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

When police arrived at the premises on Lark Lane, Liverpool, to arrest her, she dropped the spanner, before being detained with some difficulty after a friend tried to intervene.

An officer produced CS spray.

Police said Shallis, who 'had been drinking all types of alcohol' admitted in interview that she went into the premises and asked to use the toilets. The trouble flared after she was refused permission.

She accepted she threatened to stab a man and 'held an item to his throat in such a way only the tip was visible giving the impression it was a knife'.

Shallis denied using racist language.

Judge Andrew Menary, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, described her as 'a young woman at risk of going seriously out of control'.

"It was quite appalling behaviour that night," he added.

Judge Menary said if Shallis, who was only 16 when she committed the offences, had been older he would have imposed a custodial sentence.

Instead, she was made the subject of a 12-month community order and told her to carry out 15 days of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid work. The judge also imposed a two month curfew between 8pm and 6am.

Shallis, 18, of Stephen Close, Stalybridge, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault; and racially aggravated criminal damage.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that since the offences, on April 20, she has committed other offences - involving criminal damage, threatening behaviour and possessing a kitchen knife in the street.

David Polglase, defending, said Shallis - who splits her time between her mother in Stalybridge and her father in Liverpool - needed help to stay out of trouble.
