Drunk teen who threw her handbag at police says: 'Nottingham is the only place I get arrested'

A drunk teenager threw her handbag at police officers and told a court: "Nottingham is a bad place for me."

"Nottingham is the only place I get arrested," said Bailey Jelley, 18, who admitted being drunk and disorderly on Lower Parliament Street.

Presiding magistrate David Clarson told her: "There is a solution to that but the courts can't offer that advice.

"We are sharing our concerns with you. We think there is a danger of you committing these offences."

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said police were called at 4.40am to deal with a woman found slumped over the reception desk of a night club on March 9.

"She appeared very much in drink and several members of staff were concerned for her safety," said Mr Pietryka. "There is a mention of paramedics also being there.

"There was verbal abuse towards the police officers. Then she threw her handbag in the direction of the officers.

"It didn't hit them. She was swearing, throwing her arms around and was clearly affected by drink throughout.

"She was arrested by police and seen by paramedics but refused any treatment."

A fine of £80, £85 prosecution costs and a £30 government surcharge were ordered from Jelley, of St Bernard's Road, Whitwick, near Coalville, Leicestershire.

"I ain't got money to pay so it will have to come out of my benefits. I have just joined universal credit," said Jelley, who represented herself in court.

She told the two magistrates she recalled little of the incident and added: "All I can remember is them saying 'if you don't go in the ambulance, you will go with us.'

"I said 'I don't want to go to hospital' because there was nothing wrong with me."
