Drunk student nurse wreaked havoc on Scots streets smashing into cars

A student nurse caused chaos and thousands of pounds worth of damage by drunkenly driving around city centre streets smashing into several parked cars.

Megan Clark's driving was so bad that other motorists started following her around Dundee until she finally came to a halt after leaving four other cars badly damaged.

Clark, 18, was confronted by the witnesses and denied causing any crashes and denied that her car was damaged as a result of the demolition derby.

She told them there was nothing wrong with her car - but was unable to get out of the driver's door because it had been dented so badly it would no longer open.

It quickly became apparent that the teenager was under the influence of alcohol as she dropped her phone several times while they waited for police to arrive.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday: "Just after 8pm a witness was walking down Roseangle when she heard a crash and looked down and saw the accused's vehicle coming towards her.

"It continued north towards Perth Road and they heard another crash. She collided with a VW Golf which caused the alarm to go off. She sped up and then turned right.

"At that time witnesses in a flat were aware of her crashing into a Citroen. There was damage to both doors of that car on the passenger side. CCTV showed the accused traveling further on.

"She drove down Roseangle at speed and due to this witnesses followed her, believing it to be the car involved in the collision. They traced the car within a car park outside a flat.

"They approached and found the accused in the driver's seat. They asked if she had crashed and she said she hadn't. They asked why her car was damaged and she said it wasn't.

"She tried to get out but struggled due to damage to the driver's door. She appeared intoxicated and dropped her phone a number of times."

The court was told there was substantial damage to the VW Golf and it was the following day that a Kia and a Peugeot were found to have been damaged too.

Clark, from Peterhead, was found to be nearly three times over the legal limit and she admitted drink driving on April 27 when she appeared in the dock yesterday. She also admitted failing to stop after accidents.

Solicitor David Duncan, defending, said: "She had been at a public house earlier in the day and had returned home and slept it off for a period of time.

"Also earlier in the day there had been difficulties between her and a male friend. When she woke up she felt there were issues that needed to be addressed.

"It was clearly not the right decision to make. It was a very foolish decision and all matters should have been left for the following day.

"She is a nursing student and is working for NHS Tayside as a health care support worker. She recognises this will cause her difficulties.

"She is very embarrassed to find herself here. She had clearly not given herself enough time to process the alcohol."

Sheriff Lorna Drummond banned Clark from driving for 12 months and fined her £800.

Clark, who was at the wheel of a Mazda 2, collided with and damaged a VW Golf, a Kia Picanto, a Peugeot 208 and a Citroen C1.
