A drunk who left a woman traumatised by taking off his clothes and climbing into bed with her while she slept has been spared jail.
Craig Delaney, 26, clambered into bed with the woman, who did not consent to him being there, in December 2019, in Ayrshire.
Prosecutors had alleged it was a sexual offence but Delaney pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
When he returned to the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday to learn his fate, solicitor Sandy Currie said: "He is ashamed that his actions have impacted on people in the way that they have.
"This has given him a very serious wake-up call as far as alcohol is concerned.
"He's thoroughly ashamed of the whole episode."
Sheriff Alistair Watson told Delaney, of Irvine, Ayrshire: "The woman suffered deep distress and is likely to continue to suffer distress as a result of this for some time to come.
"It seems clear to me it’s a non-sexual matter. I’d hope the likelihood of you reoffending is low."
He fined Delaney £750, reduced from £1,000 as he admitted his guilt and ordered him to pay a £40 victim surcharge.
