Drunk Scots mum who spat on cop during height of covid pandemic and called officer a 'p**f' jailed

A mother who spat on a policewoman at the height of the coronavirus epidemic last year has been jailed.

Kerry Henderson was arrested after police went to a disturbance in Denny, Stirlingshire, in September, Falkirk Sheriff Court was told today.

They spoke to Henderson, who was described as heavily under the influence of alcohol, and asked her what was going on, the court heard.

Henderson, 30, immediately became aggressive, shouting and swearing, and asked one cop: "Is this your first day, you wee p**f?"

Despite the fact that it was 10.55 pm, a 10-year-old girl then arrived at the scene.

Henderson grabbed the child by the face, covered her mouth, and said to her: "Don't f****** tell them anything."

Prosecutor India MacLean said the child "appeared frightened, and began crying" but Henderson "continued to swear at police, saying 'f**k you, f****g c**ts', and she was arrested."

Henderson continued shouting, saying "f****g beast, I'm going to cut your f*****g throat" and then addressed the 10-year-old, saying, "Run away from these b*****ds".

She was placed in a police van and began spitting in the vehicle's custody cage, calling police "f****** d**es" and "f****** m****ls" and at Falkirk Police Station she was escorted to a cell where she spat in the face of police constable Toni Smith.

Henderson, of Denny, Stirlingshire, admitted police assault and using threatening and abusive conduct.

The incidents happened on Little Denny Road, Denny, and at Falkirk Police Station, on September 29th, 2020.

Solicitor-advocate Martin Morrow, for Henderson, said: "The police were going to deal with another incident involving a number of females. She was the first female they saw and they stopped and spoke to her about it, and things got out of hand.

"She apologises that her behaviour was entirely inappropriate."

Jailing Henderson for six months, Sheriff Derek Livingston said: "This was spitting on a police officer last September when we were bang in the middle of this Covid epidemic. I consider I have absolutely no alternative but to impose a custodial disposal."

Henderson showed no emotion as she was led to the cells.
