Drunk Renfrew man snaps registration plate off car and verbally abuses pregnant girlfriend at family wedding

A Renfrew man who had to be locked out of a family wedding due to his drunk aggressive manner has been fined.

Jamie McKeeve, 32, admitted he was so drunk he tore the registration plate off of his partner’s car - snapping it in to pieces after subjecting her to a mouthful of abuse.

Procurator fiscal depute Caitlin O’Hare told Paisley Sheriff Court: “On October 4, the accused and the complainer were at a wedding in the Busby Hotel.

“Around 9pm the accused stated he wanted to go home.

“At this point he was extremely intoxicated.

“The complainer, Ms Williams, was sober as she is pregnant with his child.

“She had driven the couple to the wedding that day.

“Around 10pm, Ms Williams was stopped by a member of staff and asked if McKeeve was her boyfriend as he was shouting and damaging a car in the car park.

“Ms Williams saw McKeeve next to the car and she observed the registration plate of the car snapped and lying on the ground in pieces.

“McKeeve saw Williams and shouted, ‘Get in the f*****g car, you fat c**t,’ ‘Don’t contact me, you’re getting nothing from me, you’ll be own your own.’

“Ms Williams went back in to the hotel and staff locked the doors.

“The accused went to another door demanding keys for the car and a short time later he ordered a taxi.

“At 11.45pm police arrived and he was arrested and taken to Govan police station.”

Defence agent Ms Galbraith explained that McKeeve ordinarily lives with the complainer.

She said: "McKeeve is living with his mother just now due to bail conditions but normally lives with the complainer.

“The couple have been in a relationship for three years and it is otherwise good.

“The couple were at a family wedding and he had been drinking alcohol.

“He doesn’t normally drink and felt unwell and wanted to go home.

“His partner is heavily pregnant and is due to give birth in two weeks.

“This is an isolated incident and he apologies profusely.

“He also immediately paid for the repair to the vehicle the next day.

“He understands that he was totally out of order and he is ashamed of how he spoke to his partner.

“She wishes the relationship to continue.”

Sheriff Gillian Craig said: “This must have been alarming for all those involved.”

Sheriff Craig fined McKeeve £420 to be paid at £40 per week and imposed a non-harassment order for a period of 12 months.
