A man who took a knife to a Leeds city centre nightclub claimed he did so accidentally after making snacks at home.
Sardar Rahim, 48, said he forgot the three to four inch blade was in his back pocket when he left home on New Year's Eve to go to Popworld.
Prosecutor Louise Pyrke said Rahim entered the Cookridge Street venue with the small steak knife 10 minutes after midnight on New Year's Day.
She said he became irate when confronted by security staff and police were called.
Leeds Crown Court heard Rahim was still aggressive when officers attended.
In his police interview, Rahim said he had gotten drunk and been cooking at home and must have taken the knife out with him accidentally.
Rahim told a probation officer that he had been making snacks with a fruit knife at home after drinking half a bottle of whiskey and taking painkillers including tramadol.
He also said he had been upset and scared as he did not know why he was being apprehended by door staff.
Rahim, who lives alone in a council property on Lincoln Green Road, Burmantofts, Leeds, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in a public place.
Michael Morley, mitigating, said his client has been unable to work for the last few years due to chronic pain.
Mr Morley said the combination of his pain medication and alcohol had resulted in out of character behaviour.
Rahim was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to abide by an eight-week curfew.
