Drunk lout throws Buckfast bottle that almost hit baby

A careless drunk almost hit a baby girl with a Buckfast bottle.

Kenneth Wylie of Colthart Drive, Muirkirk, threw the bottle on March 27 when passers-by were getting the tot out of the car around 4pm.

Fiscal Lindzi Bayne told Ayr Sheriff Court said: “The witness was moving her granddaughter from the car when she heard a smashing noise from 20ft away.

“She saw a smashed Buckfast bottle and the accused was 30ft away.

“The witness stated Wylie had flung the bottle from the driveway area. She then saw him picking up long pieces of glass.”

The court heard Wylie said: “I didn’t mean to throw it there.

“I meant to throw it at my bin.”

Solicitor Ian Gillies said Wylie appeared in court with the support of his mother.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie told Wylie: “You will be subject to a community payback order where you’ll be under supervision for 18 months.

“You must turn up. If there is any alcohol issues then you must deal with it.

The sheriff warned him: “This could have turned out to be quite a serious matter but fortunately for you it didn’t.”

Wylie admitted culpably and recklessly throwing a glass bottle towards witnesses, placing them at risk of injury from flying shards of glass.
