Drunk lout threatened to attack paramedics and tried to spit on them

A drunk lout threatened to attack paramedics and tried to spit on them as they tried to help him.

Police were called by the North East Ambulance Service after Daryl Hill turned aggressive towards their staff, who had been called to treat him on his home street in Kingston Park, Newcastle.

On arriving, officers noticed that paramedics had been forced to eject Hill from their ambulance before he immediately ran-off on seeing them.

A court heard the 28-year-old was quickly located but turned his attention towards the police and started making more threats.

He was handcuffed to stop the threats being carried out and then arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Hill, of Laleham Court, failed to appear for his court hearing on Thursday, claiming he had "childcare issues, but the case was proved in his absence.

James Long, prosecuting, said police were called to Laleham Court by the ambulance service on October 11 last year.

He said: "The report said an intoxicated male was being extremely aggressive towards paramedics by threatening to assault them and trying to spit on them.

"When police arrived, he was banging on the ambulance doors after paramedics had ejected him from the ambulance. The defendant saw the officers and made-off."

Described in court as "extremely intoxicated", Hill was soon found and arrested.

Magistrates fined Hill £40 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
