Drunk Kilmarnock man threw punch at woman and bit police officer after hurling abuse

A drunken Kilmarnock man who attempted to punch a woman and bite a police officer has appeared before the town’s sheriff court.

David Mason was so intoxicated that staff at the pub where he had been drinking were forced to call his partner to collect him – but when she and a friend brought him home, he became aggressive and insulting.

Appearing in the dock, Mason, 51, admitted assaulting a woman by attempting to punch her on the head, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks towards them and assaulting a police constable by attempting to bite him.

The incidents took place on June 1 when Mason, of Tourhill Road, and his partner had returned from a day out in the evening when Mason had began to drink alcohol.

As a result of his drinking, he became aggressive towards the woman and then left for a nearby pub.

The woman contacted her friend who came to the house and, at around 9.30pm, the woman and her friend received a call from the pub.

The two women collected him together and brought him home but Mason again became aggressive and started shouting and swearing, calling the women “whores”.

The friend tried to calm him down but Mason climbed out of a bed and threw a punch at her. Police were called and Mason was arrested, then attempted to bite the police constable.

Sheriff Shirley Foran deferred sentence until August 8.
