Drunk Glasgow lout battered man with belt and bottle after watching Old Firm game in city pub

A drunk man got into a fight with a stranger after an Old Firm game.

Gary Lang, 27, was watching the Rangers v Celtic game at Cheers Bar on Paisley Road West on May 12 2019.

He then proceeded to go out into the street and a witness reported seeing Lang getting involved in an altercation with an unknown male.

Prosecutor Victoria Kwell told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “The male removed his belt and swung it towards Lang.

“He then retreated and picked up a glass bottle and threw the bottle at him.”

The witness informed the police and they were given his description and he was arrested.

Lang, of the city’s Bridgeton, pled guilty yesterday to having an offensive weapon.

Lang admitted he had been drinking before the incident.

Ian McClelland, defending told the court: “He was presented with a situation and reacted this way.”

Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: "It's ridiculous of someone your age to get involved in this."

He was sentenced to 105 hours of unpaid work.
