Drunk drivers crashed into cars leaving trail of destruction during police chase through Glasgow

A pair of drunk drivers who left a trail of destruction while being chased by police have been arrested.

One motorist, who was under the influence smashed into a row of parked cars before giving the wheel to his drunken passenger.

Officers began to pursue the vehicle after it crashed into the parked cars and failed to stop in the Shawlands area of Glasgow on Sunday.

After a 'short' pursuit, the car stopped but another man was found to be driving. He was over the drink drive limit.

The original driver was also over the limit - and did not hold a driving licence.

Photos taken after the event show the left side of the car completely caved in and the front headlight destroyed.

The men, both aged 24, were both reported for drink driving and other road traffic offences.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The driver of this vehicle collided with parked vehicles and failed to stop.

"This is probably because he was over the drink drive limit and did not hold a driving licence.

"#RPGlasgow were dispatched and after a short pursuit the vehicle was stopped with another male driving.

"Unbelievably the second driver was also over the drink drive limit!

"Both males will be reported to the courts for drink driving and other Road Traffic Offences

"There is no excuse for driving under the influence of alcohol!"

Another spokesperson added: "Two men, both aged 24 years, have been arrested and charged with alleged road traffic offences after a vehicle collided with two parked cars on Westclyffe Street near to Minard Road, Shawlands, Glasgow, around 1.40 pm on Sunday, 27 February, 2022.

"They were released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.

"A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"No one was injured as a result of the collision."
