A Harrison man with a blood-alcohol reading allegedly over five times the legal limit drove into a light pole before being found by police in his very damaged car in the middle of the road two kilometres away, ACT Policing said.
ACT police said officers saw the black Nissan Micra sedan - which had a damaged roof, missing front bumper, smashed windscreen and deployed airbags - at about 3.10am on Tuesday.
The Nissan's front bumper and number plate were found at the crash site, with ACT police suggesting the 40-year-old had continued to drive in his smashed up car after hitting the pole.
Police were conducting mobile patrols on Burrumarra Avenue in Ngunnawal when they came across the vehicle.

"Officers spoke with the driver who stated that he had [crashed] while driving to a residence in Casey," ACT police said.
"A search of the surrounding area found a collision scene at the roundabout at Gungahlin Drive and Horse Park Drive - about two kilometres from where police located the man in his vehicle."
The man was taken into custody and conveyed to Gungahlin Police Station, ACT police said.
He later allegedly blew a blood-alcohol reading of 0.272.
ACT Policing said he had been served with an Immediate Suspension Notice, removing his right to drive and will be issued a summons to appear in court at a later date.
