'Drunk driver' crashed car into tree after 'young staff harassed in pub'

A suspected drunk driver crashed his car into a tree outside a pub where staff had reportedly been harassed shortly before.

Emergency services were called to Summerwood Lane, in Ormskirk, shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday night to reports of a collision.

Police were told that a man had crashed his car into a tree outside The Saracens Head pub and that he had been drinking.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that a tree had been completely uprooted and significant damage had been caused to the Land Rover.

A 34-year-old man, from Bootle, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken into custody.

He has since been released under investigation.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at 10.35pm on Tuesday to reports of a one vehicle collision.

"A Land Rover had collided with a tree. We attended the scene and a man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

"A 34-year-old man from Bootle has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."

The crash came after staff at the pub had reportedly been harassed by a customer.

A spokesperson for the pub posted about the alleged incident on their Facebook page but it is not yet clear whether this had been reported to police.
