A drunk driver 'could easily have been killed' when he walked into the middle of the road after crashing his car, a court heard.
Zharque Patterson, 21, has been jailed for more than a year following the incident in the early hours on Chester Road, near Stretford Mall .
Manchester Crown Court heard that at about 4am on March 17, Patterson was driving a car onto the junction near the shopping centre while 'heavily intoxicated'.
The court was told that Patterson had been at a party with friends, and 'on the spur of the moment' he had 'far too much to drink'.
He has no recollection of the crash or the aftermath, how he came to be in the car and doesn't know whose car it was, the court heard.
Patterson, who was banned from driving, went through a red light then drove onto the wrong side of the road.
Shortly after, he mounted the central reservation and crashed into a raised flowerbed.
He then staggered into the middle of the road, with two cars heading towards him.
They were able to stop in time, and one called 999 after seeing Patterson clutching his stomach.
But the police had already been called by operators of CCTV cameras, who had saw the incident unfold.
About 15 minutes later officers arrived and arrested Patterson, a short distance away but still on Chester Road. He appeared to be drunk, officers said.
When he was taken to the police station he refused to provide a specimen of breath.
Patterson was already banned from driving at the time, after he received a suspended sentence before magistrates for another dangerous driving offence.
During that incident he was chased by police, swerving in and out of traffic, and was later found to be in possession of a knife.
Defending, John Marsh said that Patterson responded well to the requirements of the suspended sentence, attending sessions and appointments.
He said Patterson is now a father with a stable home, and has found work in a shop.
Mr Marsh appealed for Patterson to be spared jail.
But Judge Michael Leeming sentenced Patterson, of Scafell Close, Urmston , to 56 weeks in prison.
The judge told Patterson: "You could quite easily have been killed.
"This was deliberate and drunken driving. You put yourself and other road users plainly at risk on this occasion."
Patterson pleaded guilty to four offences, one count of dangerous driving, one count of driving while disqualified, one count of failing to provide a specimen and one count of driving with no insurance.
