A drunk dad smashed down a door at his ex's home before striking her and then fleeing with their baby.
Furious James Mason, 23, had earlier slipped a note through his former partner's letterbox calling her a "horrible, fat piece of worthless s**t", a "f*****g mess" and a "horrible c**t", leaving her petrified.
However, Mason did not stop there with his reign of terror, and later turned up at her home in North Shields, North East England, smashing open her patio door and hitting her in the arm, forcing her to run to nearby workmen for help.
A court heard that Mason took this opportunity to grab the pair's baby and flee the scene of the incident, reports Chronicle Live.
Police later found the drunk in North Tyneside, where he was eventually persuaded to hand over the tot and was then arrested.
Now, Mason, of Dowling Avenue, in Whitley Bay, has been given a 24-month community order after he pleaded guilty to one count each of criminal damage and assault by beating.
Tracey Wood, prosecuting at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court, said Mason and the victim had previously been in a relationship for more than two years but had recently split up.
On August 22 this year, he turned-up at her home and was shouting and pacing around outside before posting a note through her letterbox.
Mrs Wood said: "It said "You're a lying, horrible, fat piece of worthless s**t". He was complaining about the victim going out and stated she was a "f*****g mess" and a "horrible c**t".
"That was at 8am."
The court heard that, at 9.40am the following morning, the victim heard a noise at the rear of her home and found Mason, who appeared drunk, inside.
The woman asked him to leave but he refused and kicked out at a patio door.
Mrs Wood continued: "The defendant kicked out further at the glass door, causing it to smash.
"This allowed the victim to run through it. The defendant followed her and the assault took place - he punched her to her arm.
"She ran to seek help from nearby workmen. The defendant was then seen leaving the property with their baby, who the victim says was only wearing a nappy at the time."
The police were called and quickly located Mason and the child but had to "engage with him for some time" before he handed over the tot.
In a statement, the victim said she was now terrified in her own home and feared for the safety of herself and her child.
John Kirkham, defending, said there had been a falling out between Mason and his ex over his access to the baby.
"In temper, he's kicked out at the door, not intending it to smash, but it did smash, so he was reckless," Mr Kirkham added.
"Things got worse. She had been lying to him, however, that's not to justify his actions.
"He punches her to the arm. There's no physical injury as a result of that, it's done out of pure frustration."
As part of the community order, Mason was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work and to pay £75 compensation to his ex, £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
He was also made subject of a restraining order, which banned him from contacting the victim, for two years.
