Drunk Celtic fan jumped barricade during match for selfie with Neil Lennon

A brazen Celtic fan raced into the Hoops dugout during a match to take a selfie with manager Neil Lennon.

Connor Dempsey leaped over the barricades and attempted to approach the Irishman last October.

The drunk 23-year-old was stopped by officers and arrested.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to conducting himself in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace.

The court heard the Scottish champions were taking on Romanian outfit CFR Cluj in the UEFA Europa League tie.

Prosecutor Christopher McKnight said: “He made his way down the concourse steps.

“He entered into the Celtic dugout area and was alongside players and management.

“He attempted to obtain a photograph with Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
“Police approached him while he was heavily under the influence and he was taken into custody.”

Lawyer Gerry Devanney, told the court Dempsey recognised that his actions were “stupid.”

He added: “He was under the influence of alcohol and he approached the manager for a selfie which was most ill-advised and led to him being arrested.”

Celtic went on to win the tie 2-0 with Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi netting for The Bhoys.

Sheriff Valerie Mays deferred sentence on Dempsey, who works for a civil engineering company, until December.

Dempsey, of the city’s Govan was granted bail for his latest matter meantime.
