Drumpellier suffer heavy eight-wicket defeat to league leaders Ayr

Drumpellier dropped down to third in the Western District Cricket Union following a heavy eight-wicket defeat by leaders Ayr on Saturday.

Anderson’s East Kilbride also jumped above the Langloan club by five points following their win at Stenhousemuir.

The visitors were all out for 107 after 35 overs, with Ayr achieving their total of 108 for the loss of just two wickets in 19.3 overs.

It was anticipated that this would be a tight affair, with just one defeat between the sides in the first half of the season, with nine games left.

Having hammered Scott McElnea for four, Nick Pyne was bowled in the next ball to a low Yorker, but it was then steady progress before Fraser Hamilton was bowled by Narahari Bhandari for four runs.

Drumpellier were at 28-3 when Jordan Pryde was caught by Neil Logan at square leg, having tried to smash a full toss to the boundary for 17.

Chris Keltie quickly followed but Chris Heginbottom and Nathan Allison were on a partnership of 35 when the latter chipped it to third man, where Puskar Bhandari was waiting.

He was followed by Heginbottom and Adel Naza off the bowling of Callum Leck, who took three wickets off six balls.

Drumpellier were at 97-9, but Darren Pryde and Josh Allison then gave Ayr a slightly bigger target.

Renfrew are next up at Langloan on Saturday for a midday match.
