The newly refurbished visitor centre at Drumpellier Country Park has been targeted by heartless vandals – on the day it opened.
A glass door at the Coatbridge facility was smashed, and attempts made to set the building on fire, between last Thursday night and the following morning.
Police are investigating the incident at the centre, which only reopened to the public on Thursday morning after extensive improvements works.

“Our staff came in this morning to find one of the new glass doors smashed and a bottle with petrol broken on the floor where these mindless vandals had tried to set the building on fire,” said Councillor Michael McPake, education and transport convener.
“After all the work to renovate the centre and get it ready for the summer holidays, it is extremely disappointing that this has happened and I would appeal for anyone with any information about the incident to contact Police Scotland on 101.
“The staff at the park are determined not to let this vandalism affect visitors hoping to enjoy a day out at Drumpellier.”
