Drummond's effort not enough in Pistons' 98-95 OT loss to Jazz

DETROIT _ When Andre Drummond is the go-to scorer, you know there are offensive issues.

The Detroit Pistons center scored 30 points and grabbed 24 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to prevent a 98-95 overtime loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

Jazz forward Joe Ingles, who forced overtime with a layup, knocked down two 3-pointers to give the Jazz a 95-91 lead early in overtime at Little Caesars Arena.

And rookie Donovan Mitchell nailed another 3-pointer to give the Jazz a 98-91 lead.

Tobias Harris missed a corner 3-point attempt with four seconds left that would have tied the game.

The Pistons (22-24) have lost six straight and are 3-10 since point guard Reggie Jackson went down with a severely sprained right ankle.

Drummond added five blocked shots, four assists and three steals one night after he was denied a spot in next month's All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

Mitchell scored 15 points on 6 for 21 shooting. The Pistons passed on the rookie of the year candidate to select Luke Kennard, who struggled with 10 points (3 for 9 shooting) and committed key turnovers.

The Jazz moved to 20-28.

Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy shuffled the lineup, going with Langston Galloway and Stanley Johnson in the starting group.

Johnson started in place of an injured Reggie Bullock (right thumb). Johnson finished with seven points (3-for-12 shooting).

Ingles scored a layup from an out-of-bounds play drawn up by Jazz coach Quin Snyder with 4.5 seconds left.

Kennard missed an open 3 at the buzzer that would have won the game in regulation.

Drummond's true impact was seen when he left the game for a breather late in the third quarter.

The Pistons had a 64-61 lead on three Kennard free throws.

The Jazz immediately went on an 11-2 run to take advantage of backup Boban Marjanovic defensively.

The Jazz lead was 74-72 when Van Gundy went back to Drummond with 9:17 remaining.

The new starting point guard had some early success.

Galloway's 3-point jumper at the 9-minute mark gave the Pistons a 7-5 lead.

And Galloway found Johnson for a 3-pointer at the 7:10 mark to give the Pistons a 13-10 lead just before the first timeout of the game.

Smith entered at the 5:10 mark and went on to have a strong first half, scoring 10 points.

Galloway re-entered late in the second quarter and missed a short jumper on the Pistons' last possession.

The Pistons took a 49-43 lead into halftime with Galloway scoring five points and handing out three assists.

The Pistons held the Jazz to 37.5 percent shooting in the half.
